FAQ: Receiving Office Service

General Information

We are open from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Asset tags are automatically provided for equipment purchased via our purchasing office (purchasing application). If you have computer equipment purchased with SCS/CMU funds, you can email receiving@cs.cmu.edu or bring your purchase receipt to our Wean 3613 location.
Yes, this is possible but we will require a charge string to pay for the cost of shipping.
Not currently. SCSCF is currently working on a project to address this and similar needs for more convenient pick-up options.
We ask that you pick items up from our Receiving office as soon as possible. If you have a special need, please contact us as we can make some limited exceptions.
The difference is based on a threshold; $4,999.99 and below falls under non-capital and  $5,000.00 or above is considered capital. For more information, visit our purchasing page
Generally, we have significant space for orders but these are received and handled in close coordination in order to have timely retreival of packages. We often receive large hardware orders for data centers and labs. Please contact us to discuss your potential orders and receiving.
Not at this time.
Yes, having order number, name of person or code (coming soon!).
Yes, but quantities are limited. We do our best to keep a certain amount of packing materials on-hand.
Not currently. To use our space effectively, we only store incoming packages or outgoing packages.
We will contact you as your orders are received.
The shipping company may not be able to contact someone during non-business hours. They will come back next business day or call us to reschedule for the next available day.

If a purchase delivery was not made through SCSCF's purchasing office, we would not be involved in retrieval or sorting out shipping.

For all SCSCF-processed purchases, we look to identify any such damage upon receipt. We would then decide whether to reject the delivery or accept it. Additionally we would reach out to our vendor if we have any concerns about the package and its condition. We would also assist in scheduling a return or replacement as appropriate.
We notify of delivery by email or through our purchasing system. Additionally, if you're looking for information on the delivery of an order made for a faculty member (or other 3rd-party), you can stop by Wean 3613, email receiving@cs.cmu.edu or call 412-268-5600.
No.
We may open boxes to confirm the order is fulfilled in its entirety.  We generally reseal all boxes we verify, unless there is a different underlying concern.
There is no cost associated with out cart, except replacement in case of loss or damage. CMU ID is required at check-out. Contact receiving@cs.cmu.edu for more information.
