Recommended Computers and Configurations

Through testing and working with our community, SCS Computing Facilities (SCSCF)  have developed computer system recommendations with configurations that provide enough performance and features for standard use cases. These are all tested to perform well with our currently supported Windows, Linux and macOS operating systems.

 We also provide recommendations for docking stations, displays and useful accessories. If you choose to purchase a computer not on this list and wish to run Linux, please submit a ticket to confirm that your proposed hardware is compatible with an SCS Computing Facilities supported version.

Some flexibility is possible regarding memory and disk configurations. Please ensure your requested configuration considers your usage, storage and performance requirements as some computers (such as Apple computers) now have permanent, soldered-in memory, storage and/or CPU components and cannot be upgraded later. SCSCF will attempt to accommodate special needs. Please contact us prior to purchasing a non-recommended machine or special configuration.
