SCS Computing COVID-19 Update
Updated April 2022
In accordance with guidance from Carnegie Mellon University and the state of Pennsylvania, SCS Computing Facilities (SCSCF) has transitioned to a more active presence on campus.
We are prepared to support you
We have adjusted office configurations and on-site schedules to ensure that we have enough staff during normal working hours to meet the support needs of SCS while maintaining a safe working environment.
For people working remotely, we will continue to provide remote support. For more information about remote support and your privacy see https://computing.cs.cmu.edu/help-support.
For all technical support, you can submit a request through our website, call 412-268-4231, or email help@cs.cmu.edu.
Help Desk
Our Help Desk team is available on-site:
Gates Hillman 4201
Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm
Email: help@cs.cmu.edu
Phone: 412-268-4231
To avoid a crowded help desk and maintain de-densification, we highly encourage you to book an appointment. To schedule an in-person SCS Help Desk appointment, send mail to help@cs.cmu.edu. If your issue does not require in-person troubleshooting or hardware service, remote support may be right for you.
Desktop Support
When hardware support is needed, our technicians are happy to coordinate equipment pick-up and drop-off or an office visit. This can be done at the SCS Help Desk or campus office locations.
HPC & Project Server Support
Our Operations team is currently staffed to have someone on-site 24/7.
Wean Hall 3612
24/7 Emergencies, Machine Room Access
Phone: 412-268-2608
You can call Operations for urgent server requests such as system reboots. In case of emergencies, the operations team is prepared to escalate requests to our second level engineering teams. The level 2 teams can perform many support tasks remotely. If your request requires hands-on support, these teams normally have people on-site during regular business hours.
Receiving
Members of the SCS Community can pick up and drop off packages by appointment during the SCS Receiving office's scheduled on-site service hours:
Wean Hall 3613
Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm
Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 1:00pm
Email: receiving@cs.cmu.edu
Phone: 412-268-5600
The SCS Receiving office has scheduled regular pick up and drop off times throughout the week with our vendors or shipping services, such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, campus mail, etc. For smaller items, we recommend shipping directly to your remote work location. (If applicable.) To arrange shipping or receiving of larger computing items, please contact receiving@cs.cmu.edu.
