AFS Database Server Retirement

New servers need to be configured on desktop clients for continued use.

What is happening?

With new servers in place and operational, SCS Computing Facilities will retire our old AFS Database Servers on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

Why it matters:

These AFS dbservers record certain metadata and assist AFS clients in locating volumes. New servers were added in 2020 and have been our primary DB servers since April 2021. No disruptions are expected for AFS clients with up-to-date configuration. This includes our supported systems, such as Dragon Ubuntu systems managed by SCS Computing Facilities, public lab and timesharing systems.
